The Essence of Pond Maintenance
Pond maintenance is more than just skimming leaves off the water's surface. It involves a holistic approach to address various elements of the ecosystem, including water quality, plant health, and the well-being of aquatic life. Regular maintenance not only enhances the visual appeal of your pond but also sustains a balanced environment for your fish and plants.

- Debris Removal: Leaves, twigs, and other debris not only diminish the aesthetic beauty of your pond but can also contribute to water quality issues. Our team skilfully removes debris from the water surface and pond bottom, preventing organic matter buildup.

- Filter and Pump Maintenance: A well-functioning filtration system is the backbone of a healthy pond. We inspect, clean, and maintain filters and pumps to ensure they operate at peak efficiency, promoting optimal water circulation.
- Aquatic Plant Care: From water lilies to submerged vegetation, aquatic plants contribute to the overall balance of your pond. We provide expert care to ensure your plants thrive, enhancing the visual appeal of your water feature.
- Fish Health Checks: Our team monitors the health of your fish, checking for signs of illness or stress. We offer guidance on feeding practices and other aspects of fish care to promote a thriving aquatic community.
Nature Ponds
We understand the importance of maintaining a well-balanced nature pond. Pond plants play a crucial role in providing a healthy ecosystem for your pond, allowing nature to thrive and keeping the water clear.
To achieve this, we ensure that around two thirds of the surface water of the pond is covered with pond plants. We use a variety of plants, including lily plants, oxygenating plants, and spreading marginal plants, to maintain the balance of the pond. We also make sure that these plants are regularly maintained to prevent overgrowth, just like weeds in your garden.
Regular care of pond plants is essential to maintain the balance of your nature pond. If you are unable to undertake this care yourself, we can provide maintenance services for your pond. Our team of skilled professionals can ensure that your pond plants are regularly maintained, preventing overgrowth and maintaining the balance of the pond.
When a pond becomes excessively overgrown, a full clean is required. In nature ponds, the ideal time to do this is in the winter months. This is when all plants have died back, and most of the nature has migrated from the pond to the surrounding area, such as newts and frogs. Pond insects are also at their lowest levels during this time, so minimal disruption to pond life is achieved. This also allows time for the pond to re-establish for the following season.
Although not essential, a nature-friendly pond pump is always welcome, as it adds movement and oxygen to the pond, preventing it from going stagnant. This can help to promote a healthy ecosystem for your pond. If your nature pond requires maintenance or ongoing care, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

Koi & Fish Ponds
Maintaining a koi fish pond requires more frequent maintenance compared to a nature pond. In order to keep the water quality at an optimal level, pond pumps must be kept clear of debris, filters need to be regularly serviced, and UV bulbs should be replaced at least every 12 months. It's also important to regularly test pond water quality by measuring parameters such as PH levels, KH levels (water hardness), as well as Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate levels.
To keep the pond pump functioning properly, we recommend removing it from the pond once a month and clearing any debris that may have accumulated around the cage or surround. It's also important to check the inlet of the pump to ensure that there is no obstruction that could slow or stop the pump from working.
Filters require cleaning on a regular basis, although the frequency will depend on the specific filter and pond equipment in use. With new auto-cleaning pond filters, the frequency of cleaning has been reduced.
When cleaning the filter media, it's important to avoid using a hose with chlorinated mains water as this can be detrimental to the filtration and disrupt the bacteria that ensure good water quality for the fish. Instead, always clean the filters using pond water.
We recommend changing Ultra Violet (UV) lamps at least once every 12 months. It's best to do this at the beginning of the spring season when the bulb is at its strongest for the first 6 months of its life span.
Regular pond water testing is important in preventing sudden large swings in water quality. A common problem in fish ponds is a PH crash, which can cause the water to become too acidic and quickly become fatal for the fish.
Just like with a nature pond, keeping a fish pond free of debris is crucial. We advise regular netting of leaves and trimming of plants. For pump-fed Koi ponds, which are more sensitive to an unhealthy environment. We recommend cleaning them out once a year to prevent debris build-up that could lead to disease.
We offer a range of services to help you maintain your Koi fish pond or nature pond. Whether you need a pond clean or regular maintenance, we're here to help.
Fish Health
If you have followed the steps above and all water tests are indicating normal levels, it is possible that your fish health is this issue and they have been infested with parasites. This may be due to a decrease in water quality, introduction of new fish, or transfer from other animals that were previously in contact with infected fish, such as ducks and frogs.
It is important to act promptly in this situation. We offer a service to analyse a skin scrape of the affected fish and provide you with a comprehensive treatment plan to restore the health of your Koi fish or other fish.
