Algae and Blanket Weed Control
Algae blooms, particularly during warm, sunny spring days, are common in ponds. These can lead to green water or blanket weed, which is a hair-like algae that clings to plants or floats on the surface. Common causes of green water include excess nutrients like nitrates from fish waste, leftover food, and decaying plant matter.

Here are some strategies to control algae and blanket weed:

Weed Brush:
Use a brush to manually remove blanket weed and floating algae.

Barley Straw: Float a mesh bag of barley straw in your pond to reduce algae growth. The ideal amount is 50g per square meter of water surface. You can replace the straw after about six months when it turns black.

Barley Straw Extract: For smaller ponds, liquid barley straw extract can be used, along with other treatments designed to reduce algae growth.

Treatment Products: There are various treatments available that target specific types of algae, so we may need to try several to find the one that works best for your pond.

Changing the pond water is not recommended, as it may only provide a temporary solution and can lead to increased algae growth. For expert help with algae and blanket weed control, contact us today.

Pond Repairs

Ponds may require repairs in addition to regular maintenance, especially when equipment fails or parts wear out over time. Losing Pond Water

If you notice your pond losing water, it could be due to a variety of reasons. We suggest turning off all pond equipment, filling the pond, and monitoring its water level over several days. If the water level stays consistent, the issue may be with external features, like a broken pipe or leaking waterfall. However, if the level drops even when everything is isolated, the lining might be leaking.

We can visit your site to assess and repair the leak. If necessary, we can also replace the pond liner, using the best possible materials. If you need help with water loss issues, don’t hesitate to contact us.
